Denise Landry
I have been practicing yoga for eight years and teaching for four.

My tradition is Kripalu Yoga, a modern synthesis based on an ancient lineage. I love that combination.

Currently I am completing my 500 hour certification at Kripalu Institute in Lenox Mass.

I have studied Sivananda style yoga in Kerala India, and yoga philosophy, mindfulness meditation, and Thai Yoga Massage in Halifax.

For the past twenty four years I have been under the tutelage of three live-in Zen masters (Jon Kabat Zinn’s term), otherwise known as my children, Jacob, Jessica and Claire.

The specific area of yoga that fascinates me is the mind body connection, another synthesis. There is a place where the integration between what is locked in the body and instinctual brain, comes into the awareness of the thinking part of the brain. That place is where healing can happen.

Observing this process in myself, and especially in my students, has been a deep privilege. I chose to study traumasensitive yoga, under the direction of Dr. Bessel van der Kolk of the Trauma Center in Boston.

I also enjoy teaching beginning students, vinyasa style classes, and pre and post natal yoga.

Yoga is a very natural, instinctual practice of self care and awareness for human beings. Children all know how to practice yoga, but we move away from it as we “mature”. Helping to bring yoga back into people’s lives, in a non intimidating, accessible manner, is the most satisfying work I have ever done.
